Stogursey Winter Warmer
As part of EDF Energy's work to sensitively relocate the badger population on our land at Hinkley Point we have coppiced some hedgerows. Residents have previously asked that we make any spare wood available to them to fuel their fires. We have now agreed with Stogursey Parish Council that this sustainable resource will be made available as fire wood, via the Parish Council, to residents living closest to the proposed new power station.
We are committed to facilitating simple sustainable initiatives such as this that benefit both the environment and the local community.
Bridgwater Town Hall Relaunch
EDF Energy had a stand at the Bridgwater Town Hall relaunch street fair on Sunday 18 July. We believe it was a huge success and would welcome any further opportunities to attend similar events engaging the local community, an aspect we see as extremely important to the success of the Hinkley Point C project.
Jonathan Warner, Sedgemoor District Council member of organising committee, said: "It was good to see EDF Energy engaging with the people of Bridgwater, answering questions and concerns whilst providing them with an array of energy saving tips, tricks, balloons and frisbees."
Jobs for Local People
As part of our commitment to enable local people to benefit from the socioeconomic opportunities provided by a new power station in the area, EDF Energy has already started to brief local people and businesses so that they are in a good position if planning permission is granted for new nuclearbuild at Hinkley Point C.
Supply Chain Events
Following the success of our first local Supply Chain event in July 2010, it became apparent that there was significant demand for further, more focused events in the area. As a result, a second day of supply chain sessions was held in Bridgwater.
The events were managed by EDF Energy with guidance and advice from Somerset Chamber of Commerce, ensuring that the most local businesses were prioritised and given the opportunity to participate. The first session focused on technical businesses unable to attend the initial July session, attracting over 240 registrations with 213 delegates invited.
The second session focused on local service suppliers and included bed and breakfasts, hotels, recruitment agents, clothing suppliers, first aid suppliers and many others. The session was focused on the needs of these businesses, how they can work with EDF Energy and gave potential timescales should planning approval be awarded.

Recruitment Consultants in Action
EDF Energy's team was in action at the Homes in Sedgemoor Annual Tenants'Conference in September. Toby Fletcher, our in-house recruitment consultant, ran a surgery to help tenants polish up their CV and interview techniques in anticipation for the jobs we expect to create.
